Disable Find My iPhone: Settings >iCloud > Turn Find My iPhone “Off”  if it is ON. A pop-up window will prompt your Apple ID password to confirm the “Turn-Off”.

Backup your device: It is never too much to emphasize to backup iPhone, iPad, iPod before jailbreak or update. Learn more about how to backup iPhone/iPad/iPod.

Make sure your device can be plugged into computer and recognized by iTunes.

How to Start to Jailbreak Your Device Running on iOS 8.0 – 8.1?

How to Install and Download iOS 8.1 and What Should be Noticed?

Two choices for iOS 8.1 update: One is to update via OTA, and the other is to update on iTunes.

OTA update: Go into Settings > General >Software Update. The wireless OTA update sized about 100MB but you need to make away more than 2.2GB to free up the update package.
