Data Recovery for iPhone (iPhone 6/6 Plus, iOS 8 Included)

I know it is a wheezy discussion about data recovery for iPhone, but here I still discuss about it just to help the ones who are stuck on iPhone data loss confusions. In this article, I demonstrated 3 parts related to iPhone data recovery in this article.

Note that the methods in this article are fit for all iOS devices: iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, 3GS; iPad Air, iPad mini with retina display, iPad 4, the New iPad, iPad mini, iPad 2 and previous; iPod touch 5, 4 and previous touch, iPad Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle. I mainly take iPhone as the example to demonstrate to you.

Cases That Cause iPhone Data Loss

In wrong/accidental cases, you may suffer data loss inadvertently. The main causes are listed below:

1. Accidental deletion
2. iOS update
3. Factory reset
4. iPhone/iPad/iPod Jailbreak
5. iOS software update/crash
6. Device got stolen, lost, crashed
7. Virus attack by unknown apps
8. iPhone is stuck in black/white Apple logo screen or other death screen
9. iPhone is stuck in recovery mode
10. Battery replacement

Is There Any Possibility to Retrieve Lost iPhone Data?

As for the mentioned cases that caused iPhone data loss, we have different solutions to do the lost data recovery. For the data accidentally deleted/erased, we generally have 2 methods: Restore lost data from backup & Recover data from iPhone without backup; for the data lost from iPhone device/software crash, we are trying our best to recover if the data is not overwritten and destroyed; for the cases in which your iPhone is stuck on dead screen (white apple logo, black/DFU mode, recovery mode/iTunes logo screen), you don’t have to lose data if you use proper way to fix the problems. Now let’s explore them one by one.

Part 1: Recover Lost Data from iPhone without Backup

In this part, we assume no backup is made before data. If you have a backup, please skip this part and go down to part 3 directly.

After iOS update, jailbreak, wrong deletion, accidental factory reset, you may find the data gone off iPhone. Don’t despair, your data is not actually gone forever (Precaution is that you didn’t use iPhone and let data be overwritten after data lost). So it is very easy to get it back. Without backup, you may have to pay for the data recovery. iPhone data recovery software is specially designed for that. Recommended software for iPhone data recovery here:  iPhone Data Recovery for Windows;  iPhone Data Recovery for Mac.

Just follow the on-screen guide, it is very straightforward and easy.

Part 2: Restore Deleted/Lost Data from iTunes/iCloud Backup

how to restores lost data from iTunes/iCloud backup

If you fortunately have an iTunes/iCloud backup before data loss, you can try to restore lost data from backup. One way is free and the other is paid. For the free way, you can restore your iPhone with the last synced backup, note that you will lose the data currently on your iPhone and the data will be replaced by the last backup. So be careful to use this way. The paid way can leave what is on your iPhone and restore only what you need from the backup.

#1: Free Restore iPhone from iTunes/iCloud Backup

iTunes: Connect your device with iTunes installed on your computer, go to Devices > Preferences, then find the backup and choose it to click “Restore from Backup”.
iCloud: ON your device, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, then look at the bottom of the screen for the message Last Backup, followed by the date of the latest backup.
Then go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap “Erase all content and settings.”
In the Setup Assistant, proceed to “Set up your device,” tap Restore from a Backup, then sign in to iCloud.
Proceed to “Choose backup,” then choose from a list of available backups in iCloud.

#2: Retrieve Deleted/Lost Files by Extracting iTunes/iCloud Backup without Connecting iPhone

This way needs an iTunes/iCloud data extractor for extra help. No need to connect your iPhone or launch iTunes, you can download and extract the backup with this iPhone/iTunes data recovery.  Yes, as you can see, it is the second/third mode of iPhone Data Recovery Mentioned above. However, if you only need to extract iTunes backup, special iTunes data recovery software is also a good choice.

Part 3: Recover Data from Dead iPhone – Recovery Mode, White Apple Logo, Black Screen (DFU mode)

how to recover data from recovery mode screen
